1-4 Conservative Forecheck
Neutral ZoneFull IceIntermediate5v5ForecheckTeam Systems
Objective: Protect a lead or survive a bad matchup: one forward turns pucks, four across the red line concede nothing. Setup: F1 forechecks alone; F2, F3 and both D form a flat wall of four between the red line and your blue line. Opponents break out 5-man. Execution: F1 angles the retrieving D inside-out — never dives in — and steers the breakout to one wall. The four across slide with the puck as a unit, sticks in the middle lanes; nobody steps up until the carrier crosses the red line. Trigger: a bobbled puck or a forced wall pass = the near winger jumps it and everyone swarms north. Coaching points: Use it when: protecting a lead, tired legs, or against a transition team. What beats it: a patient D who walks the middle — so F1 must take the middle away first. The wall gives up the first 100 feet on purpose — never trade structure for a hit. On the dump-in, D turn and go immediately; the counter is the only offense this system creates.
