D-Zone Shell Walk-Through
D-ZoneBeginner5v5Backcheck/D-Zone
Objective: Five players, one shape — walk the defensive-zone structure around a moving puck before anyone earns a live rep. Setup: Full defensive five in position; coach (or a token opponent) walks the puck around the perimeter. No shots yet. Execution: Coach moves the puck corner to point to point — slowly at first. On every pass, all five defenders shift together: strong-side pressure, weak-side sag, slot always full. Freeze on the whistle — every player points to their man AND the puck. Then speed it up. Coaching points: Take a picture on every pass: know your man and the puck before it moves again. Move as a five-man string — one player late leaves a seam. Wingers sink to the dots when the puck is low; fly out when it goes to the point.
