Escapes Under the Gun

Objective: Escape turns executed at true top speed with a live chaser — the half-second separator at elite pace. Setup: Carrier with a puck at the blue line, chaser one stick-length behind. Goalie in the far net. Execution: On 'go' the carrier attacks the length of the ice at full speed with the chaser hunting. Full escape turn at the red line and again inside the far blue — each one must beat the chaser's stick. Finish with a shot in stride; chaser battles until the whistle. Swap roles every rep. Coaching points: An escape at 60% is a turnover at this level — the turn happens at max speed or redo it. Sell the cut with head and shoulders, puck to the backhand, body as the wall. Two violent strides out of the spin — the escape only counts if you separate.
