Hunt in Pairs

O-ZoneHalf IceIntermediate2v2Forecheck
Objective: F2's timing turns pressure into steals — jump the second defenseman the moment the escape pass is forced. Setup: Two breakout D pass their way out of pressure; two forecheckers hunt as a pair. Coach spots pucks behind the net. Execution: F1 forces the retrieval with speed, stick in the lane, steering behind the net. The retriever escapes with a behind-the-net pass to his partner — exactly what we want. F2 reads the release and jumps the second D as the puck travels; the puck and F2 arrive together. Coaching points: F2 leaves WHEN the pass is forced, not after it lands — too late is an exit, too early is a seam. Approach the second D on his blind side and take the wall away. F1 never stops after forcing — he re-loads as the new F2.
