Own the Shot Lane

Objective: Take the point shot off the board — close in the lane, stay in the lane, and re-set when the puck moves. Setup: Two point shooters walk the blue line and move it side to side; one winger defends the lanes. Goalie live behind the traffic. Execution: Point man winds up; winger closes ON the shooting lane, shins square to the blade. The points move it across; winger re-sets his feet into the new lane before the next release. Three shots per rep — every shot either blocked, deflected wide, or clean to the goalie's eyes. Coaching points: Close in the lane, not at the man — a swerving approach screens your own goalie. Shins square, hands and face out of the lane. If you leave your feet you're out of the play — stay up unless the shot is certain.
