Race Back, Stop at the Post
Full IceBeginner1v1Backcheck/D-ZoneConditioning
Objective: Build the non-negotiable backchecking habit: sprint all 200 feet and STOP at the post — no fly-bys. Setup: An attacker carries from the far blue line toward our net; the backchecker starts behind him and races the length. Execution: Attacker carries at 80 percent so the race is winnable; backchecker sprints on the whistle. Backchecker tracks through the middle lane and finishes AT the post, stopped, stick on the ice. D holds his gap on the carrier throughout. Live rebound scramble after the shot, then rotate. Coaching points: No fly-bys — the backcheck ends at the net, not at the blue line. Track the middle lane; take away the back-door pass, the D has the carrier. Stop facing up-ice with a flat stick — you're the first outlet after the save.
