Seams vs the Passive Box
O-ZoneAdvanced4v4Power PlayPassing
Objective: Teach the PP to attack seams, not shadows: perimeter passes move the box, the third pass splits it. Setup: Four PP players (QB, two flanks, bumper) vs a four-man passive box that shifts honestly with the puck. Execution: Move it around the perimeter — QB to flank, flank back — watching the box shift. After two perimeter touches, hunt the seam: flank-to-bumper or flank-to-flank through the middle. The seam catch is a shot, not another pass. Reset and repeat; box goes live for the last five minutes. Coaching points: Two passes move the box, the third one beats it — count them out loud at first. Seam passes are hard and flat; a floated seam is a shorthanded breakaway. The bumper's blade is the target — he shoots off the catch, no stickhandle.
