Steer to the Boards
U12U14O-ZoneHalf IceBeginner1v1Forecheck
Objective: Angling without the collision — learn to match speed and steer a carrier into the wall with stick and body position. Setup: Puck carriers skate a set lane up the wall through cone gates; checkers start inside and mirror them. No finishing contact yet. Execution: Carrier leaves through the gate at half speed; checker leaves a beat later from inside. Checker matches speed, gets hip-to-hip, and puts his stick on the puck-side hip. Steer the carrier into the boards until his lane disappears; build speed each round. Coaching points: Angle, don't chase — approach from inside-out so the middle is never open. Stick leads, body follows: blade on the puck-side hip closes the lane. Match his feet before you lean — speed control beats a big finish.
