Catch-and-Release Slot Shots
O-ZoneHalf IceBeginner1v0Shooting/Scoring
Objective: Shrink the time between catch and release — the shot that beats goalies at every level. Setup: Passer with a pile of pucks in the corner, shooters lined up at the top of the slot. Execution: Passer feeds firm passes to the slot; shooter catches and releases within half a second. Five pucks rapid fire, then rotate shooter → passer → line. Vary the feed: forehand, into the feet, in the skates — shoot everything. Coaching points: Weight on the catch-side leg so the release needs no extra step. Head up at release — pick a corner BEFORE the puck arrives. Bad feed? Fix it with your feet, still get it off.
