Breakaway Ladder
Half IceIntermediate1v0GoalieShooting/Scoring
Objective: A breakaway ladder that shrinks the goalie's read time every rep — depth, patience, and pace-matching under increasing pressure. Setup: Cones mark three start points, each one closer to the net. Shooters with pucks at each start; goalie live. Execution: Round one: breakaways from the far cone — goalie sets depth at the top of the crease and matches the skater backward. Each round starts one cone closer; less time to read the release or the deke. Shooters must vary the finish: shot, forehand deke, backhand. Score the ladder — goalie wins the round at 3 saves out of 5. Coaching points: Set your depth EARLY — retreating late is how five-holes open. Match the shooter's pace with your backward flow; never get caught planted. Patience wins breakaways: the shooter has to commit first. Force the move.
