Breakout vs the Two-Man Press

Objective: Solve a hard two-man forecheck: pre-scan, quick-up, and a third man arriving before the swarm does. Setup: Five-man breakout unit in the zone; two live forecheckers hunt the retrieval and the first pass. Coach spots pucks anywhere low. Execution: D1 retrieves with F1 closing and quick-ups the strong wall immediately — no extra touch. The second checker jumps the wall winger, so the winger's touch goes to the swinging center. Center catches with speed and carries out; run it again with the checkers switching targets. Coaching points: The scan happens BEFORE the puck arrives — pressure decides the play, not panic. Two hunters can't cover three outlets: wall, center swing, D-to-D. Know all three. First pass beats the first checker; third man beats the second one.
