Center-Swing Regroup Structure

Neutral ZoneFull IceIntermediate5v5RegroupTeam Systems
Objective: The team's reset button: when the rush dies, D-to-D flips the ice while the center swings under the puck and the wings stretch the defense thin. Setup: Both D at your blue line with the puck; C swings low through the middle; wingers hold wide lanes and stretch high. Execution: Rule one on any turn-back: D-to-D immediately — attacking back into the strong side is exactly what the defense set up for. C swings under the puck in a deep C-cut, timing his turn so D2's pass hits him moving north at full stride — never gliding, never flat. Wings do NOT come back — they stretch wide and high, pinning the opposing D at their line and opening the middle for the C. Coaching points: Trigger the second wave: if the C is covered, D2 skates it and the C's swing becomes a mid-lane drive — the structure converts, it doesn't restart. What beats it: a forecheck that jumps the D-to-D — so the pass is firm and the receiving D catches it moving, with the wheel behind the net as his out. Regroups fail flat-footed: every forward is moving when the puck goes back, or you've traded possession for nothing.
