Freeze or Play

D-ZoneBeginner1v0Goalie
Objective: Decision reps for young goalies: every puck that arrives is a choice — freeze it, steer it to a corner, or set it for a teammate. Setup: Coach/shooter at the top of the zone varies the delivery: soft shots, hard rims, dumps. One token forechecker adds pressure on some reps. Execution: Coach delivers a puck — the goalie reads pressure and calls his decision OUT LOUD: 'freeze', 'corner', or 'set'. Pressure coming = freeze it and hold. Time and space = play it to a corner target or set it behind the net. Ten reps; coach mixes deliveries and sends the forechecker randomly. Coaching points: The read is simple: see pressure = kill the play; see space = make a play. Say the decision before you make it — a loud goalie organizes the whole zone. Steered pucks go to CORNERS, never up the middle of the ice.
