Goalie Sets, D Goes

D-ZoneHalf IceIntermediate1v0BreakoutGoalie
Objective: Make the goalie the third defenseman — stop the rim, set it clean, and trigger a scripted exit. Setup: Opponent dumps/rims pucks in; goalie stops each one behind the net. D and forwards run the set breakout off every stop. Execution: Goalie leaves the net, kills the rim dead, and sets the puck on the D's forehand side. D1 arrives calling the play ('up!' or 'over!'), picks it clean, and moves it up the wall. Winger touches to the center at the half-wall and the unit exits. New dump every 15 seconds. Coaching points: Communication is the drill — the goalie needs to hear the call before the D arrives. Set it 3 feet off the wall, blade-flat: a spinning puck ruins the whole exit. D picks it up on the move — stopping on the puck invites the forecheck.
