Over Breakout to the Weak Side

D-ZoneHalf IceIntermediate2v1Breakout
Objective: Beat a strong-side forecheck with the over pass — behind the net to the weak-side winger. Setup: D retrieves a spotted puck with one forechecker chasing the strong side. Wingers on both walls, center in the middle. Execution: D1 retrieves, feels the forechecker on the strong side, and walks behind the net. Instead of forcing the strong wall, D1 hits the weak-side winger with the over pass. Weak W catches moving up the wall; center swings to support and the pair exits. Coaching points: Shoulder check twice — going in and coming out the other side. The over pass hugs the ice: flat, firm, ahead of the winger's tape. Winger times his slide down the wall WITH the retrieval, not after it.
