Overload Power Play
O-ZoneAdvanced5v5Power PlayTeam Systems
Objective: Strong-side overload: a three-man triangle on one wall outnumbers the box locally, cycling until a seam opens to the slot or the backdoor. Setup: Half-wall, goal-line and strong point form the triangle; net-front screens; the fifth man floats weak-side for the backdoor. Execution: The triangle passes and exchanges on the strong side — half-wall to point to goal-line — forcing two penalty killers to defend three. Every touch, read the box: if a killer chases the puck, the man he left is the play. Trigger: the box leans to the overload = seam pass across to the backdoor for the one-timer, or half-wall walks downhill to shoot. Coaching points: Use it when: your PP has strong wall players but only one elite shooter — the overload creates chances out of possession, not bombs. What beats it: a box that refuses to chase and packs the middle — then take the point shot with the net-front screening; don't force the seam. The goal-line player is the engine: below the goal line he can't be checked legally by the box — use him every time pressure comes.
