Point Walk: Shoot or Slide

O-ZoneIntermediate1v1Power PlayShooting/Scoring
Objective: Train the PP point man's one read: walk the line, and let the shot-blocker's lane decide shoot or slide. Setup: D at the point with pucks, one live shot-blocker in the lane, flank shooter and net-front in PP spots. Goalie live. Execution: D walks the blue line laterally, forcing the blocker to move with him. Lane open: low shot through for the net-front tip. Blocker holds the lane: slide the pass to the flank for the one-timer. Ten reps, rotate. Coaching points: Walk with intent — a standing point man makes the blocker's job easy. The read is the blocker's STICK-and-feet line, not his eyes. Never shoot into shins: a blocked point shot on the PP is a short-handed rush.
