Power Play Breakout Wave

Full IceIntermediate1v0Power PlayBreakout
Objective: The five-man PP breakout as one wave: retrieve, build speed together, and hit the red line in formation. Setup: Full PP unit in breakout spots — D1 retrieving, D2 support, center swinging, both wingers wide. No pressure to start. Execution: D1 retrieves and wheels; D2 slides across as the D-to-D safety valve. Center swings deep and times his route to take the pass at full speed. Wingers stretch the walls; the whole unit crosses the red line together as one wave. Add a passive 1-1-2 PK forecheck once it's clean. Coaching points: One wave, five men, one speed — staggered arrivals let the PK pick you apart. The center's swing is the engine: deep enough to build speed, timed to the wheel. If the wave breaks down, circle back and rebuild — never enter piecemeal on the PP.
