Regroup vs Token Pressure

Neutral ZoneFull IceIntermediate5v5RegroupTransition
Objective: The 5-man regroup with two honest checkers in the way — the pass has to beat the pressure, not avoid it. Setup: Five-man unit regrouping; two checkers apply token (70%) forechecking pressure in the neutral zone. Coach spots pucks to D1. Execution: D1 takes the spotted puck with a checker closing — D-to-D escape is the first read. Forwards sink and swing: center low, strong wing fills middle, weak wing stretches. D2 finds the swing forward through the second checker's lane; unit attacks three-wide and finishes. Coaching points: Token pressure still takes away ONE option — find the one it leaves open. D-to-D under pressure is a flat firm pass, never a hope pass. If both checkers jump the regroup, the stretch winger is open by definition — look long first.
