Retrieve-and-Exit Race

U10U12D-ZoneHalf IceBeginner1v1BreakoutBattles/Compete
Objective: Turn retrievals into a race — get back, get it, get out, with a checker breathing on you. Setup: Coach dumps a puck to the corner. D starts at the blue line, checker starts beside him. Both race on the whistle. Execution: On the whistle, D races back to the dumped puck; checker races on an angling path. D retrieves with a shoulder check and must carry out over the blue line with control. Checker forces a rim or a turnover = checker wins. Switch roles every rep. Coaching points: First three strides decide the race — sprint, don't glide back. Shoulder check on the way in so the pickup happens at full speed. Use the net as a shield if the checker wins the race — don't panic-rim it.
