Reverse Breakout (Wheel Behind)
D-ZoneAdvanced5v5BreakoutTeam Systems
Objective: Beat the chasing forechecker with his own momentum: wheel behind the net and reverse the puck back against the grain into the ice he vacated. Setup: D1 retrieves in one corner with a forechecker chasing; D2 and the strong-side winger read the reverse; C supports the middle. Execution: D1 retrieves and wheels behind the net at speed, using the net as a shield — the chaser has to follow or die on the post. Trigger: D1 feels the chase behind him = bank the reverse back around the wall to the winger sagging into the corner the pressure just left. The winger takes it up the vacated wall; C mirrors across as support and the far D closes behind as the valve. Coaching points: The read is a feel, not a look: chase behind = reverse; chase cut over the top = keep wheeling and it's a clean skate-out. What beats it: a second forechecker reading the reverse — so the reverse call is quiet (a tap of the stick), never shouted early. Bank it firm and low — a soft reverse dies flat behind the net and the goalie can't play it for you.
