Rim Catch on the Wall

D-ZoneHalf IceBeginner1v0BreakoutPassing
Objective: Kill the rim dead — the winger's wall catch is the most repeated skill in every breakout. Setup: D with pucks in the corner, wingers rotating through the catch spot at the half-wall, a center in the middle. Execution: D1 rims the puck hard around the wall on the coach's signal. Winger presents his blade flat against the boards, body opened up-ice, and kills it dead. One touch to the center in the middle and the center carries out. Rotate winger to center to line. Coaching points: Blade flat ON the ice against the wall — a vertical blade lets it hop over. Open the body before the puck arrives so the next play is forward, not backward. Bend the knees and take the rim on the backhand side when it comes in hot.
