Stretch Breakout (Long Bomb)
D-ZoneFull IceAdvanced5v5BreakoutTeam Systems
Objective: The long-bomb structure: one forward lives at the far blue line, and every retrieval starts with a look 120 feet up the ice. Setup: D1 retrieves; the stretch forward posts at the far blue line; C supports mid-ice; the other winger holds the wall as the safe outlet. Execution: Retrieval rule: shoulder check, then the FIRST look is the bomb — the stretch F times a lateral move across the line so he catches it in stride, onside. The pass is flat and hard, aimed to lead him wide — a floated stretch pass is a turnover at center ice. Trigger it's off: the stretch man is shadowed or the lane is cluttered = second look is the wall winger, third is D-to-D — never force it through the middle. Coaching points: Use it when: opponents pinch and press deep — one completed bomb per period keeps their D honest and backs the whole forecheck off. What beats it: a smart sweeper-D reading the retrieval — so the stretch F must move laterally (a static target is an easy read). The stretch F's job description is timing: arrive at the line WITH the pass, never standing at it waiting.
